MY STORY

A Journey from Darkness to Light

Jaz Rai remembers the day his family could no longer bear to watch him destroy himself. Kicked out of his home, not out of cruelty but out of sheer desperation, he found himself lost in the grip of alcohol addiction. His relationships crumbled, his health suffered, and the darkness of his father’s fate, who also battled alcoholism, loomed over him.

Years of struggle finally led him to sobriety in 2009, but the journey was far from over. Jaz realized that addiction wasn’t just about drinking—it was a deep-rooted issue within the Sikh community, often overlooked or dismissed. The cultural acceptance of alcohol at celebrations, family gatherings, and social events made recovery even more challenging. He knew that standard recovery programs weren’t enough. The Sikh community needed a solution tailored to their values, faith, and unique struggles.

MEET THE TEAM

Jaz Rai

Founder

This realisation led to the birth of the Sikh Recovery Network. Established as a charity in 2019, the organization brings addiction recovery into the heart of the community—the Gurdwara. By incorporating Sikh teachings, the support network provides a safe space for individuals to heal, reconnect with their faith, and rebuild their lives. The Sikhi 12-step program, inspired by the traditional model but adapted to Sikh values, has helped countless individuals find their way back to Chardi Kala (eternal optimism).

What started as a personal recovery journey has now grown into a movement. Sikh Recovery Network continues to break the stigma, offering culturally conscious support, awareness workshops, and a sense of belonging to those who feel lost.

You are not alone. Help is here.
